University of Vermont
UVM Medical Center’s Level I Trauma Center offers a six-year general surgery residency program that includes five clinical years and one surgical research year between the second and third clinical years. Surgery residency rotations are designed to provide experience in preoperative, operative, and postoperative care for patients in all general surgery areas. UVM physicians give general surgical residents substantial surgical exposure preparing them for careers in general surgery or surgical fellowship training.

The MCW Department of Surgery is a distinguished leader and innovator in the education and development of the next generation of surgeons.  We discover and translate new knowledge in the biomedical and health sciences and provide research-driven cutting-edge, collaborative patient care of the highest quality. The Department has a number of disease-specific clinical programs with a number of regional affiliations with hospitals ranked in the top 5 nationally and practice locations outside of the metro Milwaukee area.  The department has 60 trainees in residency and fellowship programs and will expand this year to eight categorical positions.

In the federal government’s FY 2016, the MCW Department of Surgery ranked 27th among the departments of surgery receiving NIH research funding; our goal being the top 10 in the next 5 years as we lead the way in research, education and surgery!
