UVM Medical Center’s Level I Trauma Center offers a six-year general surgery residency program that includes five clinical years and one surgical research year between the second and third clinical years. Surgery residency rotations are designed to provide experience in preoperative, operative, and postoperative care for patients in all general surgery areas. UVM physicians give general surgical residents substantial surgical exposure preparing them for careers in general surgery or surgical fellowship training.

The Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch has a rich history as the first Department of Surgery in Texas. The Department has been a fertile ground for developing academic surgical leaders since the turn of the century. Educating and training surgeons of the future continues to be the core focus of the Department. The Department also focuses on scientific excellence and novel investigation to advance the science of surgery.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center
Managing more than 2 million patient visits each year, Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is one of the largest academic medical centers in the Southeast, and is the primary resource for specialty and primary care in hundreds of adult and pediatric specialties for patients throughout Tennessee and the Mid-South. The Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus takes pride in our ongoing research into new technologies and our continued improvements in patient care.

Massachusetts General Hospital
Massachusetts General Hospital, a leading medical center located in the heart of Boston, is consistently ranked among the top hospitals in America. Mass General is the original and largest teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, where nearly all of our staff physicians serve on the faculty. Mass General trains the next generation of medical and scientific leaders and conducts the largest hospital-based research program in the United States.

The Department of Surgery encompasses a wide variety of surgical specialties. These include bariatric surgery, burn surgery, colorectal surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, endocrine surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, transplant surgery, trauma, acute care and surgical critical care surgery, vascular surgery, and oncologic surgery. The department’s extensive surgical expertise, in combination with ongoing teaching and research activities, provide ample resources and advanced surgical techniques for patient care.

Virginia Tech Carilion Department of Surgery is comprised of 80 faculty members with residencies in surgery, plastic surgery, and neurosurgery. The partnership between Carilion Clinic and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute was formed out of an innovative public-private enterprise in 2007. Together, we are working to transform health care by educating the physician leaders of tomorrow while supporting our mission of improving the health of the communities we serve.

McGovern Medical School is the seventh largest medical school in the United States. Located in the Texas Medical Center, the school was established by the Texas Legislature in 1969 to address the shortages of physicians and the then-untapped resources for medical education in Houston.
